My work is a fusion of my cultural identity and is inspired by textiles and artifacts from both Maori and European contexts. I combine these two cultures through the vehicle of printmaking as well as traditional and modern fibre techniques. My research methodology and visual inspiration is often taken from the museum and museum collecting practices. Primarily, I have learnt about and understood elements of identity through the institution of the museum. My work references the interplay of love and contempt for the museum as a colonial construct. The notion of collecting references my personal gathering of 'self'' fragments, which I piece together, as hybrid artifacts that reference my two cultures that I collected at birth.
